We were honored to work with Toledo’s utility leaders at the Fall Water Affordability Academy and have since been providing ongoing technical assistance. A year later, Toledo is poised to announce a series of sweeping new water affordability initiatives, including a debt forgiveness program at the same time that their shut-off moratorium was lifted. Cindy Geronimo is the Commissioner of Utilities Administration for the City of Toledo Department of Public Utilities (DPU). Utilities Administration provides the primary administrative, fiscal and operational control functions for DPU which provide services to approximately 130,000 customers estimated to represent over 500,000 people. Cindy oversees Finance and Accounting, Billing, DPU IT support, Safety, Employee Development, DPU Public Relations and Outreach. She has been instrumental in developing and deploying DPU’s affordability initiatives including launching monthly billing in 2020. She is also part of the team working to implement several technology upgrades at DPU that include a new billing system, customer portal, new payment platforms and Automated Meter Instruction (AMI).
