Dear Mayors Innovation Project members and friends,
Thank you to the more than 90 mayors and civic leaders who joined us in Washington, DC for a packed day and a half of inspiring ideas and thought-provoking discussion. We hope you left with concrete examples of innovations to advance in your city, as well as deeper connections to peers from around the country.
We are grateful to the speakers and attendees for making the meeting so informative and dynamic. Our first-ever Women Mayors’ Network sessions brought together 23 women mayors from around the country to discuss the unique challenges women face in executive roles in local government. Mayors learned about new research from the Barbara Lee Foundation on voter perception of women candidates. Click here to attend their webinar on January 29 and learn more!
The full meeting kicked off with a panel that explored maximizing community benefit even when implementing more targeted programs. In the keynote address, 350.org Executive Director May Boeve highlighted the roles city governments play in addressing climate change—through expanding networks, building movements, and a broad range of policy approaches that has grown more effective each year. On Saturday, the Census workshop included proactive steps to prepare in your community, and we closed with a panel on efforts to prioritize youngest residents by connecting families and services.
We want to extend our appreciation to our generous sponsors who made this meeting possible, and to AARP for hosting us in the fantastic Hatchery space. Please find presentations from the event and an online version of the briefing book here. View and share photos from the event here or by using #mayorinnovation on Twitter.
We hope you’ll join us for the Summer 2020 Annual Meeting in Tacoma, WA, hosted by Mayor Victoria Woodards. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
Ceri Jenkins
